On April 1, J. D. Jeff Baxley, 88, of Lorena went to be with his Savior in heaven. A viewing will be held at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey funeral home in Waco on Tuesday, April 5 from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 6, at 1pm, at Lorena Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Patterson officiating. J. D. was born June 8, 1916 to Jeff D and Bertie Baxley of Satin, Texas. He married Madge Maxey of Lorena on April 15, 1939. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lorena. He served in the United States Army in World War II in Europe. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Madge Maxey Baxley of Lorena; daughter, Beverly Kapellas and husband, Nick of New Braunfels; three grandchildren, Cindy Asher and husband, John of Longbeach, Mississippi, Tammy Wheatley and husband Nathan of Alvard, Texas, and Jeff D. Kapellas of Mississippi; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Daniel and Johnie Asher, Barbie Economou, and Jake and Scott Nicholas Kapellas; sister Clara Mae Miller of Calvert; and brothers James Baxley, Chester Baxley and Burice Baxley.
