J. D. Hudson, Jr.

J.D. Hudson, Jr., age 91, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at home. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 8, at First Baptist Church of Waco, 500 Webster Ave., with Matt Snowden officiating. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 7, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Hudson was born in Personville, Texas. When he entered first grade his family moved to Donie, where he grew up. From 1943 to 1946 he served in the U.S. Navy in Okinawa and in the Philippines. He married Carolyn Childs in 1948, and they had two sons, Jim and David. Subsequently, he graduated from Baylor University. He was a banker and was present the day Community Bank & Trust opened in Waco on May 14, 1952. He was named President in 1970 and Chairman of the Board in 1982. He retired from the bank in 1991 and continued serving as Board Chairman until 2017. In 2017, he was the last living person employed at the bank when it opened. He served as a Trustee of Baylor University from 1982 until 1990 and chaired the committee that built the Ferrell Center. He was always interested in ranching and in playing golf. Since 1952 he has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Waco, where he served as a Deacon and as a volunteer serving at the Agape Meal and contacting homebound Sunday School members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Ettie Hudson of Donie; and by his wife, Carolyn Hudson. He is survived by sons, Jim Hudson and wife, Peggy, of Waco, and David Hudson of Dallas. He is also survived by grandchildren, Meredith Hudson of Washington, DC, Melinda Nolen and husband, Matt, of Denver, and Laura Madeline Thibault & husband, Jonathan, of Denver. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Boyd, Ken Howington, Thad Jennings, David Lacy, Wiley Oliver, Bob Williams, and the men of the Patterson Sunday School Class.
