Jesse “J.D.” Deward Newsom passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Visitation will be 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Services will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 5, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Pastor James C. Cox and Pastor John Palmer officiating. Services will be lived-streamed at the First Assembly of God Church, 6701 Bosque Blvd., Waco, Texas, where a reception will also be held after burial. Burial will follow the service at Waco Memorial Park. J.D. was born April 6, 1932, in Cleburne, Texas, to Willie and Dora Edna Newsom. He graduated from Cleburne High School and received two associate degrees in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling from McLennan Community College. He retired as President of Mrs Baird’s Bakeries, Waco, after almost 40 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, with a love for animals. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his beloved wife, Jerry Lee Newsom; and by dearest friend, Ruth Ann Mutula. He is survived by his children, Tina Patterson of Waco, Jay Newsom of Dallas, Terry Newsom of Pflugerville, and Billy Scott Newsom of Tyler; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
