-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Bush John W. ''Bill'' Bush, 85, of Waco passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at a local hospital. Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church following his burial service at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Wilkirson- Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 1124 Washington Ave. Mr. Bush was born March 24, 1917, in Waco to James M. Bush and Kathryn F. Bush. He graduated from Waco High School in 1935 and graduated from Rice University in 1939 as a structural engineer. He married Lucille Acker in 1940. Mr. Bush practiced structural engineering in Waco for over 60 years. He was responsible for engineering such projects as Ridgewood Country Club, Cargill-Plantation Foods, Farm Bureau, McLennan Community College, Richfield High School, Waco Public Library and the WISD Administration Building. He was a principal engineer for Spicer-Bush from 1945 to 1950, Bush & Witt from 1950 to 1969, Bush & Dudley from 1969 to 1976, Bush & Cross from 1976 to 1988 and Bush Building Corp. from 1988 until his retirement. He was a lifetime Cooper Foundation Trustee as well as Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary Club, a mem- ber of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church, past president of Waco Boys Club, past member of the Waco Zoning and Planning Commission, member of Waco Industrial Foundation, past chairman and on the Board of Trustees for the YWCA, member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, as well as the past president of the Central Texas Chapter. He was honored as Engineer of the Year in 1957 as well as the Boss of the Year in 1974 by the Waco Jaycees. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lucille Bush; and son, Kenneth Bush. Survivors include his son, James E. ''Jim'' Bush and wife Marty; daughter, Carolyn Scheel and husband Chet, all of Waco; longtime friend and loving companion, Lucile Lacy Taylor; grandson, Brad Bush and wife Tara of McKinney; granddaughter, Missi Bush Grubbs and husband Mike of Sugarland; grandson, William Scheel, and granddaughter, Samantha Scheel, both of Waco; granddaughter, Becky Bush of Washington State; grandson, Bill Bush of Lubbock; friend, Bobby Moore of Waco; and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jerry Cartwright, Lacy Clifton, Bud Gervig, Bill Johnson, Roane Lacy Sr., Goodhue Smith, Tom Stribling, Dick Taylor and Joe L. Ward Jr. Honorary pallbearers are longtime friends, Boyd Gilgore and Robert Threadgill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Youth Scholarship Fund of the Waco Rotary Club, P.O. Box 5618, Waco, Texas, 76708, or Austin Avenue United Methodist Church.
