HIGHTOWER, JACK Jack Hightower, 73, of Waxahachie, died Saturday, December, 6 2003 in Austin, Texas. He was born on September 14, 1930 in Waco, TX, to Bryan J. and Emma Pfaeffle Hightower. He graduated from Waco High School in 1948 and from Baylor University in 1952. After serving in the U S Navy, Jack began his banking career at First Federal Savings in Waco. Jack moved to Waxahachie in 1958 and served as the Executive Vice President of Ellis County Savings; he later became a partner in Blankenbeckler Insurance Agency. Jack served as President, and later as Senior Vice President of the Ellis County Savings Division of Southwest Savings Association. In 1976 Jack served as president of the Texas Savings and Loan League. Jack was also involved in Jack Hightower Investments, a residential construction loan business, and he had been the owner of Marvin Place Apartments for many years. Jack was a man of high integrity whose love of his community was evidenced by his willingness to serve. Jack’s current affiliations include member, board of directors, Waxahachie Community Development Corporation; member, board of trustees, Waxahachie Foundation; member, past president and director, Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce; member, Waxahachie Chamber Ambassadors; member and past president, Rotary Club of Waxahachie; member and former chairman, board of trustees, First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie; member and former director, Waxahachie Country Club; member, Waxahachie Masonic Lodge No. 90, AF & AM, Chapter, Council, Commandery and Karem Shrine Temple; member and former director, Baylor Alumni Association; member, Baylor Bear Foundation; member of the Baylor University Development Council; volunteer, Visitors Center at The Ellis County Museum; and volunteer, The Gingerbread Trail Information Center. Jack formerly served as the vice president of the Zoning Board of Adjustments and as a member of the advisory board of the Midlothian/ Waxahachie Airport. Jack enjoyed his family, his friends, his hunting companions, his community and his Baylor Bears. Jack loved the outdoors – whether fishing in the creek at his beloved deer lease or puttering around Lake Waxahachie in his boat, Jack found happiness. He enjoyed entertaining and had special meals that he took pleasure in preparing for family and friends. Jack’s fondness for hats revealed his many interests as he always had a hat for every occasion. His presence will be deeply missed. Jack is survived by his wife of 29 years, Nancy Aynesworth Hightower; children Kathryn Anne Jenkins of Austin, Kenneth Brian Jenkins and his wife Karen of Waxahachie; grandchildren Kenneth Brian Jenkins II, Christopher Morgan Jenkins, and Kathryn Elizabeth Jenkins of Waxahachie; brother William B. Hightower and his wife Dorothy of Houston; nephews Richard W. Hightower and his wife Gayle of Houston; Kenneth W. Hightower of Denver, Colorado; and niece Gayle Durie and her husband John of Houston. Family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 11am, Tuesday, December 9, 2003, at Oakwood Cemetery with Dr. Richard Reed officiating. A memorial service is scheduled for 11am, Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie with Dr. Richard Reed officiating.
