Jack Lee Vier February 19, 1921 - November 16, 2009 Jack Lee Vier, Jr of Huntsville, formerly of Waco, passed away Monday, November 16, 2009. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 21, at Waco Memorial Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Ron Durham officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 20, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Jack was born February 19, 1921, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John Lee and Ella Burt Vier. Following his graduation from East High School in 1938, he began his military career with the United States Army Air Corps. While in the military, Jack attended Montana State University where he served as an instructor in the ROTC program. In 1962, he was ordered to Waco with the 12th Air Force and retired in 1967 having proudly serving his country for almost 30 years. After retirement, he was instrumental in beginning the JROTC program at Richfield High School and later joined Success Motivation Institute in the Advertising and Marketing Division. In 1972, Jack married Geneva James Christian and together they chose early retirement so they could travel to places where he was stationed during his military career. They also visited Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Jack was a 32nd degree KCCH Mason, affiliated with the Fidelis Lodge No. 1127 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies of Waco, Waco York Rite, National Sojourners, Knights Templar of Texas, Karem Shrine, The Royal Order of Scotland and De Molay International. He joined Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in 1968 and was very active until his health declined. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Dorothy Sheldon. Survivors include Geneva Vier, his wife of 37 years; daughters, Mary Person and husband, Jim, of Los Gatos, CA; Julie Devincenzi and husband, Emil, of Petuluma, CA; one son, John L. Vier III and wife, Maurine, of San Jose, CA; and a step-son, Mike Christian and wife, Reney, of Huntsville, TX; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The family has designated Columbus Avenue Baptist Church for memorials or a charity of your choice.
