WILSON, JACK Jack William Wilson, age 83, of Waco passed away at his home April 11, 2001. Services will be Saturday, April 14, 9:30 AM at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Entombment will follow at Sparkman-Hillcrest Mausoleum on Northwest Highway in Dallas at 3:00 PM. Visitation with the family will be between 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, April 13, at WHB in Waco. Mr. Wilson was born November 20, 1917, in Sumner. He was a graduate of Paris High School and Paris Junior College. Receiving a football scholarship, he attended Baylor University, where he earned All-American honors in football and All-Conference honors in basketball and track. Mr. Wilson served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army during WWII from 1942 through 1946. On returning home he became a first-round draft pick by the Chicago Bears and then was traded to the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League. He spent two seasons with the Rams before returning to this alma mater, Baylor University, to be assistant football coach and head track coach for 6 years. In 1954, he was employed with Owens-Illinois Glass Co. as their Industrial Relations Manager and retired there in 1982. Mr. Wilson was past president of Baylor Stadium Organization and Baylor Letterman’s Association. He is a member of Paris Junior College’s Athletic Hall of Fame, as well as a member of Baylor University’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Wilson joined Rotary International in 1960, and was awarded the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International and held the office of Sergeant at Arms from 1983 until his death. Mr. Wilson was also a member of the Men’s Downtown Bible Class for approximately 20 years. His daughter, Judy Dennard of Duncanville and his brother, Moss Wilson of Shreveport, LA preceded him in death. Survivors include: His wife of 58 years: Billie Wilson of Waco Son: Bobby Wilson and wife, Julie of Waco Daughter: Jan Grubbs and husband, George of Southlake Sister: Marion Szekely of Paris Nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rotary Club of Waco, P.O. Box 5618, Waco, TX 76708. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
