Jacqueline Margaret Lewie June 20, 1924 – December 5, 2006 Jacqueline Margaret Lewie, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at Wesley Woods Alzheimer’s Care Center. Graveside services will be at 1:30 pm Friday, December 8 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Don Scott officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, December 7 from 5 to 7:00 pm at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Jackie was born June 20, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa to Bessie and Herbert Barquist. She attended school in Des Moines, graduated from Lincoln High School and attended Drake University in Des Moines. Jackie married William Lewie, Jr. in June, 1955 in Austin, Texas. They moved to Waco in 1963. Jackie was committed in her efforts to keep East Terrace as the Grande Dame of the Historic Houses in our city. She was a devoted volunteer, serving on the board of East Terrace up until her illness. She enjoyed decorating each year for the Brazos River Festival and she adored decorating the house for the holidays and special parties. Jackie enjoyed painting seascapes and landscapes and each year contributed her paintings to East Terrace for the annual fund raiser. Jackie was a world traveler and her expertise in design allowed her to make lovely, interesting memory books of her travels. She served on the board of the Art Center and Ridgewood Women’s Golf Association and was a member of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and a daughter, Jeri Loveless. She is survived by her husband, William of 51 years; daughter, Patricia Plemons and her husband, Robert; sons, Kent Garbett and wife, Karen, Kyle Lewie and wife, Kathy all of Waco; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Sincere appreciation to the staff of Wesley Woods Alzheimer’s Care Center, Dr. James Copeland and Dr. Melanie Illich for their care and concern.
