James D. (Butch) Williams

March 12, 1948 — May 3, 2016

James David Williams (known as “Butch” to family and friends) passed away peacefully on the morning of May 3, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Butch was born on March 12, 1948, to O. D. Williams, Jr. and Maurine Hammond Williams. He graduated from Richfield High School before serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Upon his return from Vietnam, Butch attended and graduated from McLennan Community College. He worked as a journeyman electrician in Waco for many years—later moving to Irving, Texas, to work as a computer programmer. Butch married Debbie Hendrix of Waco on May 11, 1979, and they celebrated many happy years together, moving home to Waco five years ago to be closer to family. Butch was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles Ray Williams; brother-in-law, James R. Grisham; and stepson, John Koon. Left to celebrate his life and legacy are his devoted wife, Debbie; sister, Sylvia Grisham; brother, Durwood Williams and wife, Jackie; sister-in-law, Jeanne Williams; brother-in-law, Glen Hendrix, Jr. and wife, Sharon; father-in-law, Glen Hendrix; many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members. He also leaves behind loyal lifelong friends, Reg and Janette Baldwin (who selflessly cared for Butch during his illness) and many other loyal friends too numerous to list. The Williams and Hendrix families are grateful for the tender care provided to both Butch and Debbie over the past few months, including Providence Health Center, Lake Shore Village Healthcare Center and Providence Hospice. Butch’s intelligence, sense of humor and quick wit endeared him to many during his life. He will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fuzzy Friends Rescue, other animal rescue groups or the charity of your choice. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our “Memorial Guestbook” at www. WHBfamily.com.
