James Dalton Johnson

July 16, 1969 — March 22, 2024

James “J.D.” Johnson, 54, passed away due to an accident on March 22, 2024.


A celebration of his life will be held for family and friends at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 S. 5th St., in Waco, with Trigger Wiley and Johnny Wyatt officiating.


J.D. was born July 16, 1969, in Garland, Texas, and grew up in Quinlan, Texas. Throughout his life, he was employed as a mechanic and a musician. He was known as the “Redneck Rockstar” in Waco, playing several benefits and venues during his career. He truly enjoyed playing guitar and singing at every benefit he came across. He was a known motorcycle enthusiast and rode his bike every minute that he could.


J.D. was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Johnson; as well as all of his grandparents.

Survivors include his father of the home, Martin “Chief” D. Johnson; sisters, Dianna Johnson of Kyle, Texas, Gracie Klinger of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and Gerrie Johnson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; brother, Lewis Johnson and wife, Cecile, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.


Pallbearers include Kenneth Boucher, James Hinton, Kirk Hinton, Gavin Wren, Derek Cronkite, Dillon Davis, Michael Saldana, Arthur Saldana, and Allen Boughton.
