James E. Jim Hicks

HICKS, JAMES JIM E. James Jim E. Hicks, age 70 of Waco died Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at Providence Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10am Saturday, March 6 at Central Christian Church with Dr. Steven Mansen officiating, followed by a reception at the church. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday, March 5 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Jim was born October 13, 1933 in Waco to Edgar A. and Shelby Brown Hicks and remained in the Waco area his entire life. He married Linda Zachry July 11, 1955. He was a graduate of Waco High and Baylor University. After serving in the Armed Services for two years he returned to Waco and began working in the family business, Hicks Tire and Rubber Company. In 1965, he purchased Ozark Leather Company and remained its president until his retirement in 1998. He was devoted to the community, formerly serving on the Woodway City Council, as well as Midway Little League President, as a member of the Waco Chamber of Commerce, and as an active participant for numerous fund raising efforts including the Salvation Army, Hillcrest Hospital, United Way, and Baylor-Waco Foundation. His wife of 42 years and his parents preceded him in death. Survivors include his sons, Tim Hicks and wife, Janelle, Paul Hicks and wife, Beth, and Clay Hicks and wife, Penelope all of Waco; daughter, Trudi Bills and husband, Steven of Ridgeley, West Virginia; sisters, Jo Ann King and Peggy McGregor of Waco; brother, John Hicks of Waco and six grandchildren.
