James H. Deaton

James Harvey Deaton, Jr. July 3, 1925 - October 5, 2013 James Harvey Deaton, Jr. of Woodway went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, October 5, 2013, at his residence sourrounded by his loving family. Services will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 8, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Nathan Booth officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 7, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. James was born July 3, 1925, in Waco, Texas, to James and Bessie Deaton, Sr. He retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Company after 38 years as an auditor. He treasured his children and grandchildren and attending their sporting events even in his wheelchair. He enjoyed reading, sports, and playing games and cards with close friends. He was a graduate of the famous class of Waco High School of 1943. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served his country proudly until he was honorable discharged in 1946. He has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodway for forty years. After his retirement, he helped his wife Millie in her catering business. He was the gopher! He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Millie Deaton. They met at Owens-Illinois when Millie was only 18. Since he was 27, their song was, "Johnny, Wait For Me." He was a true gentleman, never raised his voice to his wife or family, and his kindness always showed forth. His attributes, as described by his grandchildren, were gentle, quiet, persistent, compassionate, servant, loyal, honest, humble and funny! He is also survived by two sons, Ed and wife, Denise, of Georgetown, Texas, and Bobby and wife, Jennifer, of Waco; four grandchildren, Joshua, Brianna, Tanner and Allye Beth Deaton; and brother-and-law, John Skyiepal. Pallbearers are Bill Gibbs, Don Hardwick, Justin Long, Randy Merrill, Guy Clemmons, and Ben Hough. Honorary Pallbearers are John Skyiepal, Joshua Deaton, Tanner Deaton, Bobby McMinn, Steve McMinn and B.J. Southwell. The family would like to thank Bluebonnet Hospice for their care and devotion.
