James L. Rhodes, Sr.

RHODES, JAMES L., SR. James L. Rhodes, Sr., 79 of Waco, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 10am Saturday, August 7 at Oakwood Cemetery with Chaplain Curtis Holland officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8pm Friday, August 6 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Mr. Rhodes was born September 23, 1924 in Como, Mississippi to Leland B. and May Still Rhodes. He was drafted into the army in 1942. He re-enlisted into the air force in 1946. He retired from active duty in November 1967 as a Senior Master Sergeant. He spent many years in the auto business and went by the nickname of “Sarge”. He was happily married to Constance Callis Rhodes for 58 years and was a very loving grandfather, affectionately known as “G.P.” to his grandchildren. Survivors include wife, Constance C. Rhodes of Waco; daughter, Linda Bloomer and husband, Danny of Austin; son, Jimmy Rhodes and wife, Brenda of Waco; grandchildren, Kristen Rhodes and Jamie Rhodes, both of Waco and Jonathon Bloomer of Friendswood, Texas; sisters, Mary Lee Carter and husband, Melvin, of Sardis, Mississippi and Lanelle Simpson of Onalaska, Wisconsin; brother, Laverne Rhodes and wife, Ora of Como, Mississippi and cousin, Vennie Rhodes of Senatobia, Mississippi.
