James Lindsay Sept. 22, 1923 – May 14, 2007 James Lindsay passed away peacefully Monday, May 14, 2007 at St. Catherine’s Center in Waco. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 17 at China Spring Cemetery with Providence Hospice Chaplain, Doug Shafer officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, May 16 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Jim was born in Princeton, Indiana to Rex and Mary Dixon Lindsay. When Jim was two years old, his mother and an infant sister passed away. Rex later married Clella Robbins who raised Jim as her own. After he graduated from high school in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Jim enlisted in the Army Air Corps and pursued his love of aviation. He had become a licensed pilot as a teenager and was flying solo and piloting passengers by the age of sixteen. During WWII, Jim served throughout occupied Europe and North Africa in the 8th Air Force, 384th Bomb Group, Squadron 547 as a B17G bomber/navigator. His last mission was on VE Day. While he was stationed in London, England, he attended a dance at Covent Gardens and met his future wife, Patricia Osborne, a native Londoner. On returning from military duty in 1945, Jim joined his father in his Hudson automobile dealership in Mt. Carmel and became an accomplished businessman. In his thirties, he worked with Dale Carnegie International and taught the Dale Carnegie Course and the Dale Carnegie Sales Course throughout southern Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. He was especially proud of the fact that he taught the Dale Carnegie Course to maximum security inmates at the Kentucky State Prison and was subsequently recognized as a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor. Jim and his family moved to Waco in 1965 to further a developing career with SMI International. He successfully served the company in many capacities. Jim enjoyed a variety of hobbies throughout his lifetime. He was an avid motor racing fan and a talented artist who painted in oils and sculpted elaborate mesquite art objects. He enjoyed photography, camping, bass fishing and flying radio controlled airplanes. After retirement, Jim and Pat spent ten years traveling throughout the United States and Canada in their motor home. They especially loved the beaches at Padre Island and Depoe Bay, Oregon and were known for flying award winning kites on these beaches that were designed by Jim and handmade by Pat. He will be remembered as a kind hearted man, a hard worker who provided for his family, a good husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and animal lover. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister and son Jeffrey Rex. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Pat; daughter, Janice Fadal and husband, Robert of Waco; grandsons, Brian Berry and Brady L. Berry and wife, Andrea of Austin; and great granddaughters, Madison Berry and Natalie Berry and their mother, Cheryl of Hubbard.
