James Louis Bush

September 10, 1949 — September 5, 2022

James Louis Bush, 72, of Hewitt, passed away Monday, September 5, 2022, at Baylor, Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center with his wife at his side. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 11, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. A reception will follow the service in the garden room. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 12, at Rosemound Cemetery, with military honors.


Jim was born September 10, 1949, in Waco. He grew up enjoying the outdoors with family and friends. In 1968, he graduated Richfield High School and then left for the USMC. After completing two Vietnam tours, he separated from the service in 1972. While stationed at 29 Palms, CA he met Janet (Jan) Kennerly of Orange, California, in 1971 and they were married September 9, 1972. He was employed as a Credit Analyst for Ford Motor Credit until he retired in 2011. He and his wife raised their children in southern California before retiring to Waco in 2017. Along with fishing and hunting, he enjoyed things like playing poker, road trips, going on cruises, and auto and horse racing, as well as watching sports on TV. He also loved time with his eight grandchildren and extended family.


Jim was a charter member of Hewitt VFW Post 6008 founded in 1983.


He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary L Bush (Jenkins); and father, Robert L Bush.


He is survived by his wife, Janet C. Bush (Kennerly); son, Rob Bush and wife, Jackie; daughters, Kelli Bush, Karen Adkinson and husband, Craig; eight grandchildren, Cole, Talore, Emily, Jenna, Halle, Jacob, Wrenn, and Dixon; sister, Joyce A Goolsby and husband, Perry; brothers, Danny L. Bush, Gary D. Bush and partner, Dusty Martin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
