MACDOWELL, JR, JAMES James MacDowell, Jr., age 78, of Waco died Thursday, April 1, 2004. Mr. MacDowell was born May 30, 1925 in Lowell, Massachusetts. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps after graduating high school and served in the Pacific during World War II. He met his wife, Pauline, while stationed in Fort Worth where Pauline was helping build airplanes. After his discharge he attended the University of Georgia where he played fullback for the Georgia Bulldogs. He and Pauline raised their family of five children in Fort Worth. He worked as a salesman for many years traveling throughout central and west Texas. Waco was a favorite part of his territory. After he and his wife moved to Waco they operated a jewelry business in the Lake Air Mall for five years. After he retired he worked at the Waco airport for seven years in airport security. He enjoyed his family, playing bridge and was an avid sports fan. Survivors include wife, Pauline MacDowell of Waco; mother, Anna MacDowell of Lowell, Massachusetts; daughters, Claudia Oney and husband, Bill of Chicago, Illinois, Pamela Beth Contreras and husband, Ciprian of Stanhope, New Jersey, Michaelene Favors of Waco, and Julianna Powell and husband, Buddy of Port Aransas; son, James MacDowell, III and wife, Jo Lynn of Arlington, twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, sisters, Barbara Hoyle of Lowell, Massachusetts and Lillian Gorman and husband, Raymond of St. Petersburg, Florida, and five nieces and nephews.
