James Porter Poole

Deacon James “Jim” Porter Poole, age 84, of Hewitt, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at his son Dave’s house in Burkburnett, Texas. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM, Saturday, June 18, at Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, “St Mary’s”, located at 1401 Washington Avenue, Waco, Texas 76701, with Father Joe Geleney officiating. Interment will follow the mass at Holy Cross Cemetery in Waco. Visitation will be 6 PM Friday, June 17 at St Mary’s, followed by a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7 PM. Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home is providing arrangements. Deacon Jim was born in Vandalia, Illinois, on July 26, 1937. He met his future bride, Eugenia Charlotte “Bonnie” Poole, at the Essex Theater in 1952 while living in Hialeah, Florida. Deacon Jim and Bonnie were married in Hialeah on July 8, 1957. Deacon Jim was ordained in the Catholic Church in 1989. He also retired from the US Air Force, the telephone industry, and teaching. Deacon Jim was a member of St Mary’s in Waco. Deacon Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Poole; father, James Poole; mother, Esther Brussman; brother, Richard Poole; and daughter, Rebecca Poole. Survivors include his children, Dr. James H. Poole and wife, Marion, of Platte City, Missouri, Deacon Dave Poole and wife, Margie, of Burkburnett, Texas, and Cathy Pettis-Poole and wife, Chris, of Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren, James E. Poole and wife, Katherine, of Platte City, Missouri, Sean Poole and wife, Jennifer, of St. Joseph, Missouri, Amanda Poole of Kansas City, Missouri, Benjamin McLean of St Cloud, Florida, Elizabeth McLean of St Cloud, Florida, Kristen Morris and husband, Michael, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Kellie Poole and wife, Channa, of Burkburnett, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Kyra Poole, Sarah Morris, Lauren Poole, and Dominic Poole.
