James W. Brooks October 29, 1936 - December 16, 2014 James W. Brooks, 78, of Hewitt, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 20, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Pastor Robert Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 19, Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. James was born October 29, 1936, in Waco, Texas, to Lillie Ruth and Charlie E. Brooks. He was a member of the Waco Community until he went into the Army at 17. He served for 3 years and came back home where he joined the Waco Fire Department. He served as a professional fire fighter for 35 years and was proud to be a part of the fire department family. He married the love of his life, Wanda Cross, in 1960. They moved to Hewitt in 1979, where they attend Crossroads Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Rose Powell. He is survived by loving wife of 54 years, Wanda S. Brooks; his daughters, Dolores Haferkamp and husband, David, and Sharon Montigny and husband Dwayne; two grandchildren, Joshua Cole, and wife, Lacy, and Lindsay Holle; two brothers, Henry Brooks and wife, Elaine, of Mansfield, Texas and Joe Brooks and wife, Judy, of Austin; sisters-in-law, Jean Patrick and husband, Ralph, and Joyce Thiele and husband, Dan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
