James William Wood December 4, 1943 - December 5, 2010 Jim Wood, 67, of Hewitt, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, December 5, 2010. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 8, at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. David Rogers officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 7, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Jim was born December 4, 1943, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Charles and Ouida Wood. He was very involved in scouting and sports as a youth, and excelled in baseball as a teenager, which led to a life-long interest in the sport. Jim graduated from Waco High School in 1961. After graduation, he attended 4-C Business College in Waco, followed by his service in the U.S. Marine Corps for a number of years. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, after 37 years of faithful service. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Norma Lynn Edwards, on June 26, 1964. Together, they had two sons, Mike and Mark Wood. He was very active in organized sports in the Midway I.S.D., and served as past President of the Midway Booster Club. Jim also coached and umpired many Midway Little League baseball games over the years. Jim loved golfing, fishing and spending quality time outdoors with friends and family. He had many joys, but counted among his greatest being able to spend time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Norma; his sons, Mike Wood of San Antonio; Mark Wood and wife, Angie, of Waco; his beloved grandchildren, Cody Miller, Matt Szenasi, Christopher Wood, and Ryan and Ally Wood. Jim is also survived by his sister, Charlene Roberts and husband, Wayne, of Robinson; his brother, Richard Wood and wife, Marilyn, also of Robinson; his sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Key, of McGregor, Sandra Lennon of North Carolina; and his brothers-in-law, Jerry Edwards of North Carolina and Milton Edwards of Waco; also numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Milton Edwards, Jim Gammel, Allen Key, Steve Kincer, Stan Leuschner and Wayne Roberts.
