Jamie Lewis December 22, 1927 - November 21, 2006 Jamie Lewis, 78, of Waco passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Hillcrest Hospital. Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, November 24 at 10:00 am at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. John T. Wells presiding. Jamie was born December 22, 1927 in Bessmay, Texas but lived most of his life in Pharr, where his father was the District Engineer. He was the son of Grace and Lafayette Lewis. Jamie graduated from Texas A & M University in 1949 and served as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and the Korean Wars. He was a Senior Engineer with Armco Steel and an accomplished artist. In 1994, he married Helen Browder and moved to Waco where he was active in the Holy Spirit Espiscopal Church, Habitat for Humanity, Grievance Committee of the State Bar of Texas and the Rotary Club. Jamie was an outdoorsman and an avid golfer. At Jamie’s request, his organs were harvested for donation. Jamie is survived by his wife, Helen of Waco; daughter, Jamie Leigh Lewis and husband, Bill Towns of San Antonio; son, Travis Lewis and wife, Liz of Austin; grandchildren, Dr. Graham Towns of Houston, Sienna Towns of San Marcos, Leah Lewis of Austin and brother, Dr. Richard Lewis of Dripping Springs. Jamie is also survived by his step-children, Barbara and husband, Dr. Richard Jenkins of Marlin; Dr. Bond Browder and wife, LuAnn of Waco, Barrie Heres and husband, Peter of Fairview, Blake Browder and wife, Crissy of Waco, Bramlette Browder of Dallas; step-grandchildren, Callan and wife, Kelli Nokes of Austin, Cameron and wife, Hannah Nokes of Austin, Claire Browder of Houston, Hunter Heres of Conway, Arkansas, Blake Browder, Jr. of Austin, Helen Heres of Sherman, Hannah Heres of Fairview and Ben Browder of Waco. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Compassion Ministries, Mission Waco or Holy Spirit Episcopal Church.
