Jan Harrell November 20, 1942 - April 9, 2006 Jan Harrell of Waco passed away Sunday, April 9, 2006 at Scott and White Hospital. Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, April 14, at Seventh and James Baptist Church with Dr. Raymond Bailey officiating. Jan was born November 20, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY to John and Nadene Herring, residing in Kansas during early childhood. The family moved to Waco prior to her beginning high school. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the National Forensic League and graduated from Waco High in 1960. Jan attended Baylor University on a Van Cliburn scholarship, was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon and graduated in 1964. She and Carleton Harrell married August 18, 1962 and to that family three sons were born, Joey, Edward and Carson. Jan made a private career of teaching piano. She was also pianist and organist at Highland Baptist, Lake Shore Baptist, Lake Shore Presbyterian, VA Chapel and Seventh and James Baptist Church. She was former President of the Waco Music Teachers Association. Jan was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels, served as a deacon at Seventh and James, wrote and had published several musical arrangements. She and Carleton worked on the stats crew for Baylor football and basketball. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Doug Herring. She is survived by husband, Carleton Harrell, sons, Joey Harrell and wife, SaLisa, Edward Harrell and wife, Julie, Carson Harrell, and two grandchildren, Katie and Charlie Harrell, all of Waco. Memorial donations may be made to Seventh and James Baptist Church and Scott and White Hospital.
