Janet Sue Karr Janet Sue Hodgkiss Karr lost her battle with breast cancer Sunday, March 26, 2006 in Waco, Texas. She was 63 years old. Jan was born on September 29, 1942 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Lloyd L. and Tommye Hodgkiss. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and cherished friend. She married Roy F. “Sonny” Karr III on June 6, 1964 beginning her life in Odessa. She was preceded in death by her father Lloyd Hodgkiss and her husband, Sonny. She is survived by her children Roy and Sarah Karr of Waco, TX, Kevin and Kathy Cox of Maple Valley, WA, her grandchildren, Franklin and Michael Karr and Jackson, Grace, Madeline and Walker Cox, her mother Tommye L. Hodgkiss of Irving, TX, her brothers John Hodgkiss and wife Merry, Bill Hodgkiss and wife Leslie of Irving, TX, her brother in law Richard Karr and wife Collette of Waco, and 13 nieces and nephews. Jan was an Irving High School graduate and graduated from Baylor University with a BS in Education as an English Major, president of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and member of Baylor Acappella Choir. Making a profession of faith at an early age she became a member of First Baptist Church of Odessa immediately after moving to town in 1964. For over 40 years she was actively and cheerfully involved in the Music Ministry where her love of music and drama thrived. She was also a member of Odessa Junior League. She was an outstanding teacher in the Ector County Independent School District for over 33 years and a member of Who’s Who among American High School teachers. She coached the State Champion Academic Decathlon teams at Odessa High School where she was also a beloved Advanced Placement English teacher. Her favorite hobbies were spending time with her children, grandchildren and precious friends. She loved to go fishing, scrapbook and play bridge anytime and anywhere. Above all, her legacy of faith and love will continue to live in not only her children and grandchildren, but also all those with whom she came in contact. A memorial service will be held in Jan’s honor at First Baptist Church of Odessa on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 11:00 am. The family received visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Odessa music ministry, Maple Valley Community Church of Maple Valley, WA or your favorite charity. Arrangements by Frank W.
