Janette Louise Aday McElyea, 73, passed away September 2, 2024, at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at St. Mary Church of the Assumption, 1401 Washington Ave., in Waco, Texas, with Rev. Joe Geleney officiating, burial will immediately follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, Waco, Texas. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held at the church hall extension home. There will be a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd., Waco, Texas, with Rev. Joe Geleney officiating the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Janette was born on February 14, 1951, in Waco, Texas, as the daughter of Samuel Pierce Aday, Jr., and Bobbie Fike Aday. She was a 1969 graduate of Richfield High School in Waco, Texas. She received her Real Estate and Property Management Licenses in Nederland, Texas, and Corpus Christi, Texas, respectively. On December 26, 1999, she married the love of her life Edward McElyea. She enjoyed a lifelong career in the real estate industry, as well as the hotel & apartment management in Florida and Texas. She was also a licensed private investigator and worked at her husband’s firm. Janet was an avid traveler, took many cruises with family and friends, and traveled to see her grandkids, never missing an important birthdate or milestone of her family. She also loved cooking and watching cooking shows. Janet took great joy to never miss an opportunity to pass along her love of cooking and family traditions to her daughters and grandchildren. She had many hobbies and interests but most loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded by her parents, Samuel P. Aday, Jr. and Wanda Janette Aday; and her sisters, Linda Aday Schlottmann, Samantha Kay Aday Muirhead and Judith Ann Anderson Cole.
Survivors include her husband, Edward McElyea; her sister, Patricia Wan; her daughters, Brandalon LaFleur and husband, Joel LaFleur, Holli Porterfield and partner, Lonnie Halbert; her stepchildren, Shannon Cornett and her husband, Jason, Michelle Ferrell and her husband, Richard, and Robert McElyea and his wife, Miranda. Janet is also survived by granddaughters, Molli, Lilli, Abby, Tessa, Chloe, Scarlett and Violet; and her grandsons, Kolten, Mason, Brandon and Mason. She will be missed most by her two Dachshunds, Ivanna, and Milli. She also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews. Janet had a host of friends and never met a stranger, and she mostly answered to Mimi and GJ.
Pallbearers will be Kolton Lafluer, Joel LaFleur, Brandon McElyea, Blair Gewertz, Craig Monroe and Lonnie Halbert.
