Janice Amelunke May 13, 1927 – September 29, 2005 Janice Amelunke, 78, of Waco passed away at a local hospital on Thursday, September 29, 2005. A celebration of life will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, at Wilkirson-Hatch Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Boulevard, with Rev. Stephen Ramsdell officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch Bailey Funeral Home. . Janice Hazel Janice Gray was born May 13, 1927, to Mark Lee and Juanita Underwood Gray in Hill County. After graduation from Aquilla High School, she attended and graduated from Hillcrest Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. Janice loved her family, church, and her community. On August 17, 1947, she married Alvin E. Amelunke and began a lifetime career of assisting her husband in building and real estate. Janice, an RN, put in many years as head nurse of the 3rd east floor at Providence Hospital. Upon her retirement in 1977, she spent several years traveling with her husband for the State Home Builders Association. Janice was a volunteer for Providence Hospital Auxiliary for many years and served until her death. Janice and Alvin were members of St. John’s United Methodist Church for 50 years and later First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin of 53 years and one brother, Ray Gray. Janice leaves behind two daughters, Sharon Amelunke and Ginger Green and husband, Jerry; granddaughter, Aleisha and husband, Ron; grandson, Jerry; sister, Betty and husband, Aubrey Bierman of Brady; sister, Mary-Lou and husband, Earl Thomas of Smynra, Tennessee; brother, Kenneth Gray of Lubbock and brother-in-law, Mack Forrester of Austin. She had the love of 12 nieces and nephews. Janice also had the love and blessing of a special extended family. Pallbearers include M.L. Dickey, Pat Hambrick, Jim Bland, Ron Nelson, Woody Butler, and Brad Alford. Honorary pallbearers are B.F. Mansell, Richard Jackson, Alex Federwisch, Carroll Fletcher, George Purvis and Frank Anderson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the A.E. Amelunke Scholarship Fund at McLennan Community College Foundation, 1400 College Drive, Waco, 76708 or First United Methodist Church Meals on Wheels, 4901 Cobbs, Waco, 76710. Janice was always known as the person greeting others wherever she was and welcoming them. We know Janice is now one of God’s greeters.
