Services for Mrs. Janice Roberson in celebration of her life will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home Chapel at 6101 Bosque Blvd. Memorial services will also be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at McLennan Community College Highlands Gym. Mrs. Roberson was born Jan. 27, 1942, in Winslow, Ariz., to William A. Opfer and Mattie Evelyn Hillin Opfer. She attended Lake Arthur, N.M., Public School and graduated valedictorian in 1960. Janice graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Lubbock and married David Edward Roberson in 1963. She worked as a psych nurse, and then taught LVN nursing in Lubbock. The family moved to Waco in 1969 and Janice worked at McLennan Community College for 34 years. She started first as an RN nursing instructor, the director of the RN nursing program and finally as division director of Health Careers. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and postgraduate degree in education from Texas Woman’s University. Janice was selected as a Leadership Waco candidate, served on the board at Planned Parenthood, and worked at the Senior Citizenship Council. She was active in developing and improving nursing and health career programs throughout the state. She is survived by her husband, David E. Roberson Sr. of Waco; son, David E. Roberson Jr. and wife Kristen, and grandson, David E. Roberson III, of Fort Smith, Ark.; sister, Carolyn Opfer, and niece, Dane Gibbs, both of Wichita Falls.
