Jasper H. Barrett August 10, 1921 - May 22, 2015 Jasper H. Barrett, who lived in Waco, Texas, for the last twelve years, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015, at the age of 93. His graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 30, at Salado Cemetery with Mr. Gayle Crowe officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 28, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Jasper was born August 10, 1921, in Hardin, Texas, to Richard Herman Barrett and Alma May Williamson Barrett. After graduating from Beaumont High School, he attended Texas A & M, earning a B. S. in Chemical Engineering in 1943. He immediately entered the military, serving as Second Lieutenant in the Chemical Warfare Service. Upon discharge from the military in 1946, Jasper went to work for Union Carbide. Always affectionately known as Jap, he married Patricia Jaronitzky in 1947. He and Pat were active members in the Church of Christ. His life centered around family and relationships within the church. He was a licensed Ham radio operator and an enthusiast of all technology. Even in his advanced age, he amazed people with his knowledge of computers, cell phones and the latest gadgets. During his long career with Union Carbide he worked in locations in Texas, New York, California and Puerto Rico. Upon his retirement in 1984, Pat and Jap moved to Salado. During his retirement, he and Pat enjoyed traveling whether it was to visit family and friends or to visit places around the world. Jap was a wonderful caregiver to Pat, who died in 1996, following a prolonged illness. The last of his generation, Jap is survived by his son, Marc Barrett and wife, Anne, of Waco; and his daughter, Shelley O'Clair and husband, Michael, of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Austin Barrett and wife, Becky, of Dallas, Andrew Barrett of New York City, and Lucie O'Clair, of Seattle; and great grandson, Benjamin Barrett, of Dallas. The family would like to recognize Jap's close friendships with Dot Martin, Helen Hastings and the late, Sam Hastings, and the late, Beverly Johnston. Jap was always appreciative of the care he received from Dr. Gary Barbin, Dr. Mace Brindley, Dr. Steve Elwell, Dr. Mark Story and his nurse, Nancy Tichavsky, Patti Stovall, Providence Home Health Care, Billie Combs and Melodie Slocum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Foundation, World Christian Broadcasting Franklin, TN or to the charity of your choice.
