JAYNE BARRETT Jayne Flynn Barrett, 89, of Waco, died on Sunday, April 7, 2002 at a local hospital, following a short illness. Services will be 11:30AM Tuesday, April 9 at WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY Bosque Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. Pamela Dykehouse officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00PM Monday April 8 at the funeral home. Mrs. Barrett, a career first-grade teacher in the Waco Independent School District, was born on February 15, 1913 in Fayetteville, Tennessee to William Bland and Martha Jo Warren Flynn. Following the death of her parents, Jayne moved to Waco at age 14 and resided at the Methodist Home. She was graduated from high school in Waco, attended Baylor University and received her Bachelor’s Degree from North Texas State Teachers College in Denton. She taught at the Methodist Home in Waco and retired after many years of service at Kendrick Elementary. She was married to William McCoy Barrett, a practicing Waco attorney who preceded in death in 1981. She was also preceded in death by five siblings, a sister Thelma Galyean, brothers Warren Flynn, Alton Lavoy Flynn and long-time Waco barbers Homa and Bill Flynn. Mrs. Barrett loved many things in life—her family, her first graders, her church, her friends, and traveling. After her retirement, she was able to enjoy many trips to places around the world, including China, Australia and New Zealand. She had lived for the past several years at Stilwell Retirement Center where she enjoyed the company of other retired teachers. She remained very active until the last few months of her life. She was a faithful member of Herring Avenue Methodist Church and was affiliated with many professional organizations including Alpha Delta Gamma, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Retired Teachers Association. Her survivors include a son, William Flynn Barrett of Valley Mills; a daughter, Martha Jo Montgomery of Valley Mills; grandson, William McCoy Swaner of Lott, and granddaughters, Elizabeth Swaner of Garland, Melissa Allen of Lubbock, Lacy Butler of Stephenville, and Polly Barrett of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and loving nephews, nieces and grand-nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Stilwell Retirement Center Building Fund at 5400 Laurel Lake, Waco, Texas 76710 or the Methodist Home in Waco. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
