Jean Dolores Sally Sterling Clemmons September 26, 1925 – April 23, 2007 Jean Dolores Sterling Clemmons, more affectionately known as Sally, to family and friends passed from this life on the 23rd of April 2007. She was the daughter of Robert Hamilton and Rhoda Lois Jones Sterling of Waco. Sally’s cousin, Robey McMillan, of Houston and sister, Sonia Sharon Sterling, of Waco both preceded her. Sally lived in Waco and graduated from Waco High in 1942. She attended Baylor for several years during the War. She married Billy Clemmons of Waco on December 20, 1942 and together they raised four children while traveling extensively and living in many different states and England and France. She enjoyed serving as president of the Officers Wives Club and the Book of the Month Club. Several of Sally’s passions were: cats, reading, discussing politics and her daily newspaper reading. One of her favorite things was spending time with a cat in her lap while she read a good book. She was very successful in passing her love of reading to all of her children. She loved to travel and saw the world on cruises with Colonel Billy, and in recent years she enjoyed summer vacations in Galveston with her daughters. After her husband’s retirement from the Air Force, they returned to Waco to help care for their parents and be with their extended families. Sally’s passion for books led her to a part time job at the Waco Public Library where she worked in technical services for 18 years. The joy of Sally’s life in the years after her beloved husband’s death was spending time with her children. If you asked her children about her they would tell you that she was one of the sweetest people they ever knew. Her oldest son, William would say “my Mom was bright, articulate, informed, and opinionated”. Janet said that Sally’s birthday in heaven is a glorious day. We will all feel the loss of her unique presence and love until we are reunited. Bill, Cindy, Bob and Janet
