Mrs. Wm. G. Jennie Whitaker, 95, of Waco passed away Friday, September 2, 2005 at a local nursing home. Services will be at 1:30pm, Tuesday, September 6 at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Visitation with family will be 6 – 8 pm, Monday, September 5 in the Garden Room at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Jennie was born April 11, 1910 in Blackburn Lancashire, England to James and Ellen Dewhurst Thornber. She was the sixth of seven siblings; all have preceded her in death. She married William G. Billy, a Methodist minister, on May 23, 1931 in Blackburn, England. They came to the United States in June 1948, settling in Terre Haute, Indiana. In February 1964, they moved to Waco to be near their daughter Joan, bringing with them their younger daughter Ruth. She was a long time, faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Waco, where she taught the Philathea Sunday School Class and worked alongside her husband, who was an associate pastor there for 25 years. Her ministry was praying for the needs of others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Whitaker and great grandchild, Breanne Dugger. She is survived by daughters, Joan Mary Dugger and husband Ralph and Stella Ruth Moss, both of Waco; grandchildren, Trevor Dugger and wife Terry, Kevin Dugger and wife Linda, Tristan Dugger, Jeff Moss and wife Christine, and Pace Moss; great-grandchildren, Adreanne and Trisstah Dugger, Amber and Austin Dugger, Alex, Rebecca and Katherine Moss, Kaleb Moss, and Tristine Dugger; nieces, Marian and Carol Nuttall of Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the world. The family request memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Waco or The Gideons.
