In loving memory of Jerilyn Rice Keith of Center Point, TX who peacefully passed away in her home on January 23, 2024, age 88, with her family and devoted caregivers by her side.
A celebration of Jerilyn’s life will be held at the Kerrville First United Methodist Church (321 Thompson Drive) on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 11:00am followed by lunch.
Born in San Antonio, TX on January 14, 1936, Jerilyn was the cherished daughter of Robert Gerald Rice and Maureen Perkins Rice. After several years in Corpus Christi, her family relocated to Houston, where she graduated from Lamar High School in 1954. She attended SMU in Dallas, becoming a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. On September 4, 1956, in Houston, TX, she united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Frank Roderick Keith. Jerilyn ultimately earned a double major in Math and Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin in 1958.
Her life was a beautiful tapestry of diverse passions. Jerilyn's attendance throughout childhood at Camp Waldemar laid the foundation for her deep love of outdoor activities, including canoeing, swimming, diving, skiing, cycling, camping and hiking. A dedicated educator, she found joy in teaching high school math and Sunday school at church. Jerilyn instilled a love for bridge in her children and grandchildren, showcasing her skill at strategic games. As an active member of the Garden Club of Waco, she continued to express her artistic side through a love of painting in watercolor, her favorite medium.
In addition to her many accomplishments, Jerilyn had a successful business career as an independent insurance agent and financial counselor, specializing in advising widows with limited financial planning experience.
Jerilyn's heart was deeply rooted in her faith. A lifelong student of the Bible, she regularly attended Bible study workshops and classes. Her devotion to understanding and living the word of God was evident in her daily life and interactions.
A proud and long-standing member of Kerr Arts and Cultural Center (KACC), she served as an early President of the organization and was instrumental in securing funding for and acquiring the historic Kerrville Post Office, making it the center's permanent home.
Jerilyn was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Jackie Youngblood.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Frank Keith; and their four children—Rod Keith, Kelly Champlin, Robert Keith, and Russell Keith—along with their respective families, including 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Bob Rice; and sisters, Judy Hartung and Joanne Handelman.
May Jerilyn Keith's legacy of love, adventure, and unwavering faith live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her.
