JERRY FLOWERS Jerry Chism Flowers, 80, of Waco died Tuesday, November 27, in Waco, Texas. Services will be held on Friday, November 30 at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church at Cobbs Drive and Lake Air. Rev. Stephen Ramsdell will officiate. Interment will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Flowers was born on July 24, 1921 in Duncan, OK, the daughter of Hoke Richard and Lillie Mae Kesner Chism, Sr.. Jerry graduated from high school in Atlanta, TX, followed by graduation from Texas State University for Women in 1942. Jerry married Thomas Arthur Flowers, Jr. on April 7, 1942 in Haynesville, LA and began her family shortly after Tom’s return from the war. In 1966, Jerry moved to Waco following the death of her husband, and she became the Director of Language Arts with Waco I.S.D. Later, Jerry assumed the position of Director of Libraries for Waco I.S.D. after earning a M.E. degree from Baylor University. She retired from education in 1985. Mrs. Flowers is survived by three children, Susan Quicksall and husband Doug of Oglesby, TX, Linda Connally of The Woodlands, TX, and Tom Flowers and wife Diane of Plantersville, TX; eight grandchildren – Holly Bates, Hillary Bates, Cara and Sara Connally, Colleen Flowers, Thomas Flowers, Brian Quicksall, and Michael Quicksall; and one great-grandchild, Alexander Meyer. Jerry was a long-time member of the Odell Dudley Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church. Active and honorary pallbearers will be from the family as well as from her Sunday School class. Jerry’s family wants to thank all of her friends who have made Jerry so happy in Waco over the years, and those who selflessly remained at her side in her times of need. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
