Jerry Matt Gill December 25, 1941 - January 22, 2011 Jerry Matt Gill of Hewitt passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Providence Hospital. Services will be 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 27, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Roy Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 26, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Jerry was born December 25, 1941, in Hillsboro, Texas, to Matt and Robbie Gill. Jerry worked at Robinson Ice Cream, Dr. Pepper and Dan's Dairy Queen before becoming owner of Jerry's Dairy Queen on LaSalle Avenue for 14 years. He was involved with the Dairy Queen franchise from 1964 to 1993 when he sold his franchise. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America and the Corps of Cadets at Texs A&M University, and was president of The Texas Restaurant Association in 1986. He was a caring son, devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, always caring for others before himself. He was also beloved by the children in his neighborhood. Jerry had an unmatched sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his father, Matt Gill; and stepfather, Al Riggs. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Dottie Elaine Gill, of Hewitt; sons, Michael Glynn Gill and wife, Jessica, and Jerry Lynn Gill, all of Hewitt; grandchildren; Ryan, Jocelyn, AJ, Megan, Christian; his mother, Robbie Riggs, of Waco; sister, Claudette Hinsley and husband, David, of Hewitt; brother, Randall Riggs and wife, Marcia, of West, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Randall Riggs, Chris Edwards, John Brown, Mike Murphy, Chois Blackwell, Ronnie Joe Sparks, Christopher Mayfield, and Larry Marek. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Blackwell, Bill Osburne, James Mayfield, Bud Blackwell, Darrell Gill and Ron Blackwell. A special thanks to the nursing staff of Providence Hospital on 4 North for taking great care of him during his time in hospice. We would like to recognize Brittany Reyes, for going above and beyond. The care and prayers from the doctors and staff were a blessing. The family expresses their deep gratitude and appreciation to Dottie Gill's siblings and their spouses for their constant kindness, concern and assistance.
