Jewell Grace Steinke Davis November 18, 1927 - January 22, 2007 Jewell Grace Steinke Davis of Waco passed away Monday, January 22, 2007. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 27, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Walter Albers officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2007 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Jewell was born to Max and Ida Steinke on November 18, 1927, in Mart, Texas. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle, TX on December 18, 1927. Her sponsors were Albert Meyer, Clara Meyer, and H.L. Homann. She was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Mart on September 27, 1942. She graduated from Mart High School in 1946. She was also a graduate of 4-C College. Jewell was united in marriage with Baker H. Davis on June 3, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waco. Jewell was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. During her lifetime, she lived in various parts of Texas. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by Goldstein-Miguel in Waco. While her husband served in the Korean War, she was employed by the Technical Air Force Command in Waco. During her marriage, she was a part-time employee of the McLennan County Soil and Water Conservation District. Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Estella Steinke and two brothers, Cleo Steinke and Weldon “Pete” Steinke. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Baker H. Davis; one son, Glenn Baker Davis and wife, Meg; and one daughter, Kay Elizabeth Davis Zimmermann and husband, David of Austin. She is also survived by six granddaughters, Stephanie Lynn Davis of Cleveland, Ohio, Kimberly Marie Davis of Columbus, Ohio, Katherine Michelle Davis of Malaysia, Elizabeth Grace Zimmermann, Sarah Margaret Zimmermann, and Rachel Christina Zimmermann of Austin. Jewell is also survived by one brother, T.D. Steinke and wife, Ruth of Waco; and two sisters, Elda Steinke Lutter of Moorhead, Minnesota and Ruby Steinke Ertel of Buffalo, New York. She is also survived by four sister-in-laws, Virginia Steinke of Waco, Sammie Davis Jarrell of Snyder, Suellen Cook and husband, Joe of Granbury, TX and Evelyn Steinke of Mart. She is also survived by seven nephews and six nieces along with 20 great-nephews and nieces. Pallbearers are John Steinke, Max Steinke, George Steinke, James Schlemmer, Bobby Luedke and Don Savage, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be the six granddaughters. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of the Willow and Magnolia Units of Wesley Woods Alzheimer Care along with Judy Smith and Dr. Charles Sterns. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be to Wesley Woods Alzheimer Care Facility, 1700 Woodgate Dr., Waco, TX 76712, Providence Hospice, St. Paul Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
