Jimmie Sue Dyer Carpenter, 82, passed away at home October 11, 2023, after a long illness with Alzheimer’s. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Rosemound Cemetery, 3201 South 12th street, Waco, Texas. Wesley Condra, her grandson‐in‐law, will officiate her service.
Sue was born in Waco, Texas, on October 6, 1941. She grew up in Waco, attending Waco High School. She then attended TCU Business College, and upon meeting Clovis, left TCU to marry. She married Clovis Carpenter, June 17, 1960, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage together. Sue and Clovis raised their children in Waco. Sue was an active member of the Waco Garden Club, and she served as a Cub Scout and was a Camp Fire Girls leader alongside her sister for many years. She attended Cogdell United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir, she helped lead the Youth Program and served in various other positions within the church while in Waco. In 1974, the family moved to Austin, Texas, where she was a full‐time mom and homemaker to her 3 children, Debbie, Gibbs, and Clint. Sue began work with the IRS in 1980, she then took a job with the American Heart Association (AHA) in 1984 where she worked for the next 30 years. Sue began her work with the AHA in the Jump Rope Fund Raising and Development department and soon she moved up as an administrative assistant within the department until 2014. She was a member and financial secretary of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Austin, TX for 20 years.
She was a member of the Austin Business Woman Association for 25 years, serving in all positions during her membership.
She adored her husband, children, grandchildren, and great‐grandchildren. They were the light of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Gibbs and Sarah Margaret Dyer; and her son, Clinton Clark Carpenter.
She is survived by her husband, Clovis Winston Carpenter of Woodway, Texas; her daughter, Deborah Renee Vanous and husband, Gary Don Vanous of Oglesby, Texas; her son, Garry Gibbs Carpenter of Burleson, Texas; her sister, Betty Lou Kanz of Woodway, Texas; her grandchildren, Brandon Vanous of Belmont, North Carolina, Cameron Vanous of Oglesby, Texas, Sarah Condra and her husband Wesley Condra of Haslet, Texas, Caitlin Marie Carpenter of Waxahachie, Texas, Whitney Ann Black and her husband Brandon Black of Benbrook, Texas, Mason Carpenter and his wife Vanessa Carpenter of Godley, Texas; and her great grandchildren, Gideon Condra, Juliette Carpenter, and Wesson Black.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gibbs Carpenter, Gary Vanous, Brandon Vanous, Cameron Vanous, Mason Carpenter, Brandon Black, and Gideon Condra.
