Jo Ann Mason Owen

JOANN MASON OWEN JoAnn Mason Owen, age 72, of Waco, died Thursday, November 22, 2001 at her residence. Services will be at 1:30 P.M., Monday, November 26 at First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Jimmie Johnson officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the Church Parlor. JoAnn Mason Owen was born on July 27, 1929, to Joseph McBride and Lutie Pryor Mason. She married Joe Owen on May 26, 1950. JoAnn attended Waco Schools, The University of Texas, and received a degree from Baylor University in 1949. After graduating, she was employed by Waco Campfire Girls as a Field Director and an Assistant Director at Camp Val Verde, later becoming a Camp Fire leader and Member of the Board. JoAnn was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a charter member of Westminister Presbyterian Church in Waco. During her 35 years of volunteering, she taught Sunday school, directed vacation bible school, and was a member of the Christian Education Committee. She also served on the Pulpit Committee and as a treasurer of the Women of the Church. JoAnn was the President and Treasurer of Planned Parenthood. She was an officer and a board member of the Junior League of Waco, Charity Ball treasurer, and a League Volunteer in the establishment of the Poison Prevention Clinic at Hillcrest Hospital. She served on the Hamilton House Board, was President of the Harston Study Club, and Town and Country Garden Club. She participated in the American Cancer Society and Heart drives and Co-chaired Salien for Salk Immunization Drive. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant daughter, Sally.
