Joan B. Wood December 2, 1936 - June 13, 2016 Joan B. Wood of Woodway died Monday, June 13, 2016. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, 1624 Wooded Acres, with The Reverend Jason Ingalls officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Joan was born December 2, 1936, in Waco to Roy Barzak and Ollie Mae Shields. She graduated from Waco High School in 1954 and Baylor University in 1958. She married James F. Wood in Waco on September 26, 1958. Joan taught for several years in the Waco public schools. She was a member of the Waco Historical Society and served as General Chairman of the Brazos River Festival in 1976. Active in Republican politics, she was vice-chairman of the McLennan County Party, member of the state Republican Executive Committee and on the Governor’s Commission for Women. She was very active in the Church of the Holy Spirit as a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, Vestry and Senior Warden. Joan is survived by her husband; children, Charlton, Laurie, and Alan and wife, Andrea Emerson; and grandchildren, Zachary, James, Elizabeth and Rebecca.
