Joan Barber, 71, of Mart, passed away Friday, June 17, 2005 at her residence. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Kruse officiating. Joan was born May 10, 1934 to George and Florence Alice Barton in Boston, Lincolnshire, England and attended schools in that area. She attended night school studying shorthand and typing. She came to the United States in 1957, and worked for 19 years at the Department of Public Safety before retiring in 1994. For many years she was a member of Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association and The Brittania Club. She also maintained many friendships through the Air Force over the years. She married Louis Eugene Barber on October 1, 1955. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 7, 2003, and by a nine-year-old brother, Alan. She is survived by her son, Michael David Barber and wife, Natalia; granddaughter, Nadya; step-granddaughter, Liza; brothers, Peter Barton and wife, Maureen; Denis Barton and wife, Mary; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in England.
