Joan Draper Woodson October 13, 1928 – February 1, 2007 Joan Draper Woodson, 78, peacefully passed away Thursday, February 1, 2007, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church in Waco, with Rev. Kay Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home Joan was born on October 13, 1928 in Greenwich, Connecticut to John and Ann Gallagher Cody. She graduated from Greenwich High School. Joan married the love of her life, Barton Carey Draper, on January 31, 1948. “Chick-a-dee” and Bart built a life full of wonderful memories and shared great joy in their children and grandchildren, traveling, camping and spending time together. They had three children: sons, Kevin Barton Draper and Dennis Carey Draper; and daughter, Patty Draper Davis. Bart passed away on June 5, 1978. “Grammy” loved and was very involved in the lives of her 9 grandchildren: Ben, Sarah, Suzanne, Cole and Joshua Draper, Kimberly McMillan and husband Aaron, Melissa Blue and husband, Michael, Cori Keen, Clate Keen and wife, Dawn, and in the lives of her 5 great grandchildren: Codi and Cara McMillan, Nathan and Daniel Blue and Trace Chitwood. The great grandchildren were her “special angels”. Joan married Harry “Woody” Woodson in 1981. She and Woody enjoyed several years of travel and time with the grandchildren prior to his death in 1997. Second only to her faith in Jesus Christ was her family. Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and a beloved friend to many. Joan has been an active member of Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church for over 40 years, participating in many of its ministries including many years of involvement with Meals on Wheels. Joan also volunteered in many civic activities. She was involved with Providence Hospital Auxillary for over 19 years and served as its president; Joan was an avid golfer and sports fan. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers John Cody and Ed Cody. She is survived by her sister, Beatrice Schirmer; and sister-in-law, Ann Cody; by her children Kevin Draper and wife, Linda, of Waco; Dennis Draper and wife, Brenda, of Dallas; and Patty Davis and husband, Billy, of Waco; her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express special appreciation to Dr. Gary Barbin, and to her caregivers, Gwen Powell, Mary Ann McCown, Ozella Henderson, Oneesha Henderson and Lorranine Henderson. Pallbearers will be Ben Draper, Clate Keen, Aaron McMillan, Michael Blue, Bill Welstead and Cordell Farrar. Honorary Pallbearers are the Providence Hospital Auxillary.
