Joan L Lanham

Joan McBride Lanham passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, October 15, 2005 after a long illness. Private graveside service will be Tuesday, October 18 at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Baker officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00. to 7:00 pm., Monday, October 17, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Joan was born to Gerald and Kathleen McBride in McAllen, TX on January 7, 1935. She attended Waco schools and graduated from Baylor University in three years with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1956. Joan was an Athenean at Baylor and an active member of the Junior League of Waco, during which time she co-chaired a committee on the annual Charity Ball. Also in 1956, Joan married the true love of her life, Mike Lanham. They were married 49 wonderful years. Her favorite pastimes were being with her family and she had a true love for animals. She was an accomplished artist and will be remembered by many for her creativity and beautiful artwork she leaves to her family and friends. Joan was free spirited, fun loving, and had a unique personality that made Joan, Joan. We love Joan, MeMaw to her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, and she will be dearly missed by us all. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by husband, Mike ; daughter, Kathy Wessels and husband Greg of Lubbock; son, Chris N Lanham and wife Nancy of Waco; brother, James R McBride of Dallas; and grandchildren Matthew and McKenzie Wessels of Lubbock, Lindsey Pick, Ami Lanham, A. J. Lanham and Jordan Lanham of Waco and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fuzzy Friends, 6321 Airport Road, Waco, TX 76708 or charity of your choice.
