JOE B. ALLEN Joe Bert Allen, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away Thursday, September 23, 2004 at his residence. Funeral services will be 1:30pm Monday, September 27, at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, 1624 Wooded Acres Dr. with The Rev. John T. Wells officiating. Interment will follow at Waco Memorial North. Visitation with the family will be 4 -6 pm Sunday, September 26, at the funeral home. Joe B. was born in Axtell to Joseph L. and Gertie M. Allen on December 10, 1924. He graduated from Waco High School in 1941. While attending Texas A&M University he was called in the Army Air Corps for two years as a pilot. After the service he returned to Texas A&M and graduated with two engineering degrees in 1948. Joe B. married Betty Faye Sligh in 1949. She preceded him in death in 1984. He married Anne Thompson Walker in 1986. Also preceding Joe B. are his parents, one brother, J. L. Allen in 1997, one sister, Mazelle Burrage in 2003 and his great friend and hunting buddy, James M. “Henry” Klatt in 1998. He returned to Waco in 1954 building homes with his brother. He entered into a corporation with his family in 1959 forming Town & Country Builders. They developed The Lake Air Estates in Waco. He was the designer/builder. He was also one of the developers in the Deerwood Addition in Waco. After Deerwood, he was a custom home designer and builder until his death. He was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit and a past member of the Home Builders Association in Waco. He had been an avid outdoorsman most of his life. He loved deer hunting and mule deer hunting with his family and his “buddy”, Henry Klatt. “Sakam Ranch” in Clifton was a place for hunting, fun for the family and a great getaway for a weekend. Survivors include his family; his wife, Anne Thompson Allen of Waco, daughters, Sharon Hooser and husband, Greg of Georgetown, Judy Lynn Bennett and husband, Mac of The Woodlands, Lisa Breedlove and husband, Randy of San Antonio, one stepson, David C. Walker and wife, Robin of Columbus, Georgia. Grandchildren, Allen Hooser and wife, Leslie of Austin, Micki Fisher and husband, Jay of Golden, Colorado, Megan Munson de Salvatori and husband, Mauricio of Puebla, Mexico, Aubrey Hooser of Georgetown, Austin Hooser of Georgetown, Bob Allen Breedlove and Elizabeth Breedlove of San Antonio, McVay Bennett of The Woodlands and three great grandchildren, Vinnie, Avery and Alexander; and sisters-in-law, Lucille Allen of Axtell and JoAnn Rogers of Waco. Pallbearers will be family, Greg Hooser, Mac Bennett, Randy Breedlove, David Walker, Allen Hooser and Bob Allen Breedlove. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Rose, Gary Butler, Ken Smith, Dave Boehner, William A. Johnson, Dr. Paul McMullen, Gary Hart and all of the wonderful Waco companies Joe B. worked with for many years. The family sincerely appreciates the care provided by Providence Hospice and the loving care Wilma gave to Joe B.
