Joe Bob McGilvray August 30, 1929 May 1, 2015 Born August 30, 1929 in Mt. Calm, Texas, and passed from this life May 1, 2015, in Cedar Park, Texas. Graveside services will be held Monday, May 4, 2015, at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, Texas. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m., at Crestview Church of Christ Community Center in Waco, Texas. Bob was the third of five children born to Hamilton White and Mattie White Goodloe McGilvray. Bob spent most of his childhood years in Ft. Worth, Texas. He met the love of his life, Laura, at church when she was in junior high and he was in high school. Bob graduated from Polytechnic High School in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1947 Bob developed a strong love of music and played the trombone in the high school band. After high school, Bob attended Texas Wesleyan College for 2 years and then joined the Air Force. He was stationed in Roswell, New Mexico. Bob and Laura married on May 30, 1952. They lived in Roswell after their marriage until his enlistment was finished and then returned home to Ft. Worth. Bob worked full time and finished his degree in Education, graduating from Texas Christian University in 1959. During this time 2 of their 3 daughters were born. Bob and Laura moved to Waco, Texas in 1960 because Bob had taken a job in nearby McGregor working for what was then known as Rocketdyne. Bob and Laura's third daughter arrived shortly after their move to Waco. He worked at Rocketdyne which became Hercules until his retirement in 1994. Bob and Laura were long time members at Crestview Church of Christ in Waco and had many close friends there. He served as a deacon and as an elder for the church. After Bob's retirement, he and Laura were able to travel and enjoyed trips to Scotland, Australia & Croatia. His biggest joy was spending time with his family, especially being "Grandy" to his grandchildren, all 10 of them! He attended many of their sporting and school activities and was happy to give updates about all of them. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clayton McGilvray and Morris McGilvray; and his infant son, James. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Laura; three daughters and their husbands, Leah and Mark Betts of Austin, Texas, Robin and Rick Mulder of Spring, Texas and Cindy and Chris Freeman of Austin, Texas; his 10 grandchildren, Blake and Ross Betts of Austin, Texas, Andy and wife, Melanie, Jake, Travis and Sam Mulder of Spring, Texas and Jessica, Alex, Mac and Madi Freeman of Austin, Texas. In addition, he is survived by his brother, John McGilvray, of Joshua, Texas; his sister, Mattie Wilkerson, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crestview Church of Christ Community Care Food Pantry, 7129 Delhi Rd. Waco, TX 76712.
