BROTHERS, M.D., JOE F. Joe Frank Brothers, M.D. went to be with his Lord at his home on Sunday, April 11, 2004. Services will be held at 10:30am Friday, April 16 at First Baptist Church at Lorena with Rev. Mike Patterson officiating. Interment will be at Waco Memorial North. Visitation with the family will be 6-8pm Wednesday, April 14 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Joe was born August 9, 1926 in Quanah, Texas. In 1928, the family moved to McAllen. Joe graduated from McAllen High School in 1942. He attended Edinburg Junior College for one year. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After graduating Midshipman’s School at Fort Schyler, New York with the rank of Ensign, he served aboard the U.S.S. Salerno Bay in the Pacific until the end of WWII. Joe graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1948. AT U.T. he was a member of the Men’s Glee Club, the Longhorn Marching Band, Sigma Nu Fraternity, and several honorary fraternities. At U.T. he met Anne Freeman of McGregor, Texas and they married on July 4, 1948 in McGregor. He graduated Tulane Medical School in 1952 and served his internship in the U.S. Army Air Force stationed at William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, Texas. He practiced general medicine in Borger, Texas before taking a residency in anesthesia at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas. He was on the staff at Scott and White and later at Providence Hospital in Waco until his retirement in 1987. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, golfing, and snow skiing. He was a member of the SPEBSQSA, Inc. for 35 years. He sang in a quartet and chorus. He was a chorus director of both SPEBSQSA and Sweet Adelines and a certified sound judge for nationwide competitions. For the last 27 years, he and his wife have resided in Lorena. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Lorena where he served as a deacon, choir member and Sunday school teacher. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Frank Brothers, mother, Lorene Winbury Brothers, grandfather, Milton S. Winbury and grandmother Iva Norton Winbury. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anne, sons, Joe Frank Brothers, III of Smithville and Thomas Milton Brothers and wife, Jean of Eddy; daughters, Karen Anne Bearor of Tallahassee, Florida and Deborah Jan Shehorn and husband, David of Riesel; grandchildren, Rebecca Edwards and husband Paul, Jennifer Brothers, Alysia Brothers, Scott Brothers, Jenna Shehorn, and Kristin Shehorn, and three great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Ed Young, Ray Salyer, Bob Easterwood, Weldon Bailey, Ricky Dorris, and Dolan Culp. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacon Body of First Baptist Church of Lorena. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Lorena or Providence Home Health Care, P. O.
