Jose M. Sanchez, of Waco, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023, surrounded by family.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. March 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 3, at Oakwood Cemetery (2124 S. 5th St., Waco). Services will be officiated by Reverend Samantha Sanchez and family members.
Jose, lovingly known as Joe, was born March 25, 1938, in Coolidge, Texas, to Donaciano Sanchez and Refugia Moreno Sanchez. He was a welder by trade, a longtime member of Waco Missions, Incorporated (a charity organization), a loving father and grandfather, and an accomplished artist, golfer, and boxing coach.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donaciano Sanchez and Refugia Moreno Sanchez; brothers, Don “Chon” Sanchez, Manual Sanchez, Rudy Sanchez, Pete Sanchez, Ray Sanchez, Gilbert Sanchez, and Robert Sanchez; and sisters, Mary Felan and Irene Garza.
Joe is survived by his brother, Ernest Sanchez and wife, Irene; son, Jose Sanchez Jr. and wife, Becky; daughters, Debbie Gutierrez, Rosie Sais and husband, Gilbert, B.J. Sanchez, Mandy Sanchez, and Renee Sanchez; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Sais, Jonathan Sais, Joshua Sais, Joe Sanchez III, Matthew Gutierrez, Jeremy Gutierrez, Roy Sanchez, and Steve Sanchez.
