Joe Silva September 29, 1948 - May 19, 2014 Joe Silva passed away Monday, May 19, 2014. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel Burial will follow at Santa Cruz Cemetery in Riesel, Texas. Visitation will be 5:00 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Joe was born September 29, 1948, in Waco, Texas to Jessie Vargas and Ambrocio Silva. When Joe was a young boy he had a love for playing the guitar and music, which was his lifelong passion. Joe served in Okinawa as a photographer for the Military Police during the Vietnam War. In the 1980's he studied music at MCC and there, he was a mentor to other musicians and would make many lifelong friends. Joe played the Blues and could electrify any audience with his incredible stage presence and his electric guitar. He lived in Nashville and played at several popular venues. Joe also served at St. Edwards Catholic Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe, providing musical direction. "Uncle Joe" is what many people would call him because he treated everyone like family. He enjoyed taking long walks with his grandkids, nieces and nephews. Joe's strong faith and love for Our Father helped him to endure a ten year battle with cancer. His uplifting, joyous and encouraging personality will be remembered by anyone who was lucky enough to cross Joe's path. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa James and husband, Josh; grandchildren, Baylen, Stori, Holden, Kensley and Ashlyn; sister, Mary Jane Silva; and brother, Ambrosio Silva, Jr. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WHBfamily.com.
