Joe V. Kanz August 4, 1925 - September 30, 2014 Joe Vernon Kanz, 89, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 4, at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6:00-7:30 p.m., Friday, October 3, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd, Waco, Texas. Joe was born at home near Clifton, Texas, to Andrew and Josephine Ludwig Kanz. He was a 1941 graduate of Clifton High School. He was in the Army during WWII, stationed in Panama, guarding the Canal. He worked for NCR for 10 years and in 1960, went to work at The Motor Shop with his father-in-law and was the owner for 30 years. He married Betty Lou Dyer on his birthday in 1960, and they were happily married for 54 years. Joe was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandpa. He loved his family, his yard and travel, until his health failed. He belonged to the Methodist church. Joe was one of the founders and past president of Texas Independent Automotive Association. He and Betty made many friends in this organization through the years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thomas and Bobby Kanz; and sister, Bernice Bushong. Joe is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Kathy Kanz of Stamford, Texas; sons, Keith and wife, Di, of Oakdale, California, and Ken and wife, Robin, of Waco; his special grandsons, Andy and Blake Kanz, of Waco; brothers, Jack, and Don and wife, Brenda, of Dallas; sisters, Edna Wilson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Alma Marion of Clifton, Helen Hood of McGregor, Ruthy Pople of El Paso, Doris Payne of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Betty and husband, Dan Clere, of Buda, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to Providence Hospice, 6700 Sanger Avenue, Waco TX 76710.
