BROWN, JOEL Joel Ray Brown, Jr., age 90 of Waco, died Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be at 3:30pm Thursday, September 9 at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Jimmie Johnson officiating. Mr. Brown was born in Beggs, Oklahoma, August 20, 1914, son of J. Ray and Frances Brown. He was educated in Tulsa and Shawnee, Oklahoma, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University. He married the former Dorothy Sue Wright of Carlsbad, New Mexico on November 4, 1939. He served in the Army Air Corps from January 1941 to March 1946 and was discharged as a Major in the Air Corps. He retired as president of Wallace Pharmaceuticals division of Carter-Wallace, Inc. Cranbury, New Jersey. He was a former president of F.W. Horner Ltd., Montreal, Canada. He was also formerly president of Davis and Geck Division and executive vice-president of Lederle Laboratories, American Cyanamid Co., Pearl River, New York. During Mr. Brown’s business career he was active as a director of Medical-Surgical Manufacturers Association; Health Industries Association; American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education; National Pharmaceutical Council; and Canadian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association. The Browns moved to Waco from Manchester, New Hampshire in 1978. He was an elder and deacon in First Presbyterian Church, Waco. He was currently active as a Field Associate with International Executive Service Corps and spent one year in Jakarta, Indonesia as a volunteer executive consultant with this group. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by daughter, Susan Brown Chartres, in 1983. Survivors are his wife, Dorothy Sue Brown, daughter, Elizabeth Brown Gitenstein and husband, Mark; grandchildren, Rebecca Gitenstein, Benjamin Gitenstein and wife, Emily, Sarah Gitenstein, Dorothy Noble and husband, Daniel, and Cynthia Wilson and husband, James; great grandsons, Gabriel Noble, Samuel Noble, and Connor Wilson; and nieces, Sara McLanahan and Nancy Smith.
