John Bachman Greer, Jr.

John Bachman Greer, Jr. October 29, 1923 - April 2, 2015 Lt. Colonel John Bachman Lee Greer, Jr., retired USAF of San Antonio, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the age of 91. Graveside Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 6, at Oakwood Cemetery. John was born October 29, 1923, in Waco, Texas to John Bachman and Hazel Eliza Cannon Greer, Sr. He met his high school sweetheart, Marinelle Kellner at the age of 15 at Waco High School. He graduated from Waco High School in 1940 and earned a BBA at the University of Texas in Austin in 1949, after interruptions for military service in WWII. He and Marinelle were married August 8, 1945, in Waco. Lieutenant Colonel Greer served in the USAF for 26 years during WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam eras. He and his wife of 69 years enjoyed living in Fort Worth, Nebraska, England, Japan and Florida. He was a loving husband and father. He loved his Lord and served as a faithful Deacon and Sunday School teacher wherever he was stationed. He was made Deacon Emeritus of Castorville First Baptist Church at the age of 85. After retirement from the military he worked 19 years for the Texas Employment Commission in Waco and Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by wife, Marinelle Greer, San Antonio, TX; one son, John B. Greer, III and wife, Darrellene, of Texarkana, TX; one daughter, Dr. Beverly Greer-Simpson of Texarkana, TX; one grandson, James B Greer and wife, Chris, of Dallas, TX; one granddaughter, Allison M. Saar and husband, Dr. Douglas Saar, of Tyler, TX; three step-grandchildren, Honorable Judge Bill Miller and wife, Jessica, of Texarkana, TX; Julie Mathis and husband, Silas, of Nashville, TX; and Greg Miller and wife, Amy, of Memphis, TN and 10 great-grandchildren.
