LATTIMORE, JOHN C. John C. Lattimore, 80, of Waco died Monday, September 30, 2002 at his residence. Services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, October 3 at First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Dr. John Wood and Dr. Larry Maddux officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8pm Wednesday, October 2 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Lattimore was born in Waco December 24, 1921. He attended Waco schools and Baylor University, from which he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education. He served as a meteorologist in the U.S. Air Force, and was discharged in 1946 as a captain. After being discharged, he returned to teach mathematics at Hillsboro Jr. College for two years. He then returned to Waco to begin a teaching career with the WISD. He taught at North Jr. High, Waco High School on Columbus Ave. and taught for 22 years at Richfield High School. He resigned to take care of his mother in 1982. He was also instrumental in founding the Educators Credit Union in 1948, where he also served as treasurer for several years. In 1985, following the death of his mother, he began a 16 year ministry of coordinating the Meals On Wheels Program at First Baptist Church, Waco. As a life long member of First Baptist Church, he also served as church historian, secretary and pianist for Sunday school, and on the Sanctuary Preparation Committee. In 1992, he was selected by church members as Senior Adult of the Year. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. John E. Alice Lattimore of Waco, his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John N. Bissell of California and his paternal grandparents, Professor and Mrs. John Compere Lucy Lattimore of Waco. The family gives heartfelt thanks to Vickie Fuentes, who trained and supervised a dedicated team of wonderful caregivers; Community Hospice of Hillcrest Hospital, to Stan and Paula Miller, who lovingly stood by and to scores of “pray-ers” who constantly lifted John C. and his family up with prayer, calls, and cards. Survivors include sisters, Mary Lattimore Vanderford Mrs. Earl C. of Temple and Lucy Lattimore Mebane Mrs. Morris of Waco; brother, Dr. Joseph S. Lattimore and wife, Laura Jane of Houston; aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Clark of California; seven nieces and three nephews of Waco, Temple, and California and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Pallbearers will be Charles Kendrick, Wilton Lanning, Cecil Dunham, Earl Bracken, Jr., Oscar Hoffmeyer, George B. Graves, Jr., Stan Miller, and Dick Jackson. Honorary pallbearers are Sterling Holt, Harold Miles, Paul Francis, Gene Prickette, Lee Dunham, John B. Fisher, Jr., Joe Jack Pierce, Owen Kersh, Victor Cooper, Bill Logue, Cullen Smith and all Meals On Wheels Volunteers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Hillcrest, Caritas of Waco, John Compere Lattimore Mathematic Scholarship Fund-Baylor University, First Baptist Church Library, and Meals On Wheels, First Baptist Church.
