ROWTON, JOHN John D. Rowton, 76, of Fort Worth, formerly of Waco, died Tuesday, November 23, 2004, at a Keller nursing home. Graveside services will be 1pm Monday, November 29 at Rosemound Cemetery, with the Rev. Kissa Vaughn officiating. Open visitation beginning Saturday afternoon and concluding Monday morning at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Mr. Rowton was born in Waco on June 2, 1928, son of Virgil and Annie Mae Simons Rowton. He graduated from Waco High in 1945 and attended Baylor and 4C Business College. He was married to Sharon Glanton July 5, 1952 at Columbus Ave. Baptist Church, by the Rev. W. W. Melton, the same minister who officiated at the marriage of his wife’s parents. In 1963, John began his civil service career, which took him from Waco, to San Antonio, Fort Worth, and later Dallas. He was medically retired in 1981. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Sharon Rowton of Fort Worth; daughter, Carol Steffer and husband, Ed, of Bigelow, Arkansas; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
