John E. Goble

John Edward Goble August 17, 1920-October 31, 2008 John Edward Goble passed away Friday, October 31, 2008. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 3, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Stephen Ramsdell officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, November 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. John was born August 17, 1920, to Maudie and William Lee Goble. He graduated from Waco High School and Texas A&M University. In 1942, he married Dorothy Dumas, who died in 1975. He married Georgette Covo Browder in l976. In 1942, he went to England to serve as a mechanical engineer in the Army Air Corps. He retired from the Air Force Reserves as a lieutenant colonel. He began working with his father-in-law, James Sidney Dumas, in 1945 and continued in the insurance business for over 60 years. He was active in the Independent Insurance Agents of Waco, serving on the board and as president. He was also active with the Waco Boys Club for over 30 years, serving on the board of directors and overseeing the upkeep of their swimming pools. The Boys Club honored him in 1981 by naming him Man of the Year. He was a 32 Mason in Waco Masonic Lodge #92. He was active in his church and in numerous charitable organizations. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his son, James Lee Goble; brother, W.L. Goble; and sister, Mary Drennon. He is survived by his wife, Georgette Goble; his son, John Goble and wife, Nancy; and daughter, Jean McKinney and husband, Don. Survivors also include stepsons Jack Browder and wife, Becky; and Robert Browder and wife, Debbie; stepdaughters Susan Driver and husband, Ray; and Carol Browder. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would especially like to thank his caregivers and the staff at Quality Care of Waco for their kindness and compassion.
